Lewis commits to his dream school

Lone Peak defensive end Preston Lewis wasted no time on Memorial Day after receiving an offer from BYU, he committed to Cougar coaches on the spot.

“They [Coach Tuiaki & Coach Empey] offered me and told me that they were committed to me,” said Lewis. “They understood if I didn’t want to commit right now, but I couldn’t wait. I told them I was committed.”

For Lewis, BYU was always the school that he wanted to attend and play football at. Both of Lewis’ parents graduated from BYU, and it has always been a program that Lewis has watched growing up. According to Lewis, there wasn’t much thought about using the BYU offer to build up other offers, BYU was the place for him.

“BYU is the place I’ve always wanted to play for,” said Lewis. “The thought had crossed my mind to still consider other schools, but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. BYU is where I’ve wanted to be.”

Lewis is BYU’s fourth commitment for the class of 2017 and the second in the class from Lone Peak High.

The other Lone Peak High player is Jackson McChesney and Lewis said he told Jackson about his commitment and said that McChesney was excited for him.

The two Lone Peak stars plan on recruiting other recruits in the class of 2017 to join the movement and the new era at BYU.

Lewis, who is LDS, has plans to serve an LDS mission out of high school. But when he enrolls at BYU, plan on an athletic pass rusher off the edge.

Last season, Lewis had 14.5 sacks last season in his junior year and he is the type of pass rusher who BYU envisions could play both defensive end or outside linebacker at the next level.

Lewis cancelled the camps that he was going to attend this summer now that he is committed to BYU. Lewis will be at BYU’s camp in June.
